Mayflower enters new era as MTL

(Feb 4, 2008)

Mayflower Technology, the fast-growing Sheffield based contract manufacturing company, is to change its name to MTL Group.

The company, which supplies contract manufacturing services to leading multi-nationals including Caterpillar, Dennis Eagle, BAE and Terex, was acquired by Dr Henry Shirman and a four strong management team in 2006.

Since that time the company's turnover has more than doubled to over £35 million, while staff numbers have risen by more than 60% to over 200.

"We've worked hard since the buy-out to grow the business, both within our existing client base and with new customers. We have strengthened our management team and invested heavily in latest state-of-the-art equipment. Our strategy is to invest in both people and equipment that allow us to offer our customers an enhanced value proposition," said Shirman.

The company has a strong customer base serving many different sectors including construction, quarrying, recycling, agriculture and defence. Shirman said the name-change was the obvious next step.

"This is a very different business to the one we acquired two years ago. We have increased the rate of investment substantially in both equipment and people, empowering all levels of employees to become involved in the decision making process and take ownership of their piece of the business. It's a new era for the company," said Shirman.
